More mass concentrated at the point of impact means more momentum transferred into the ball, which is what actually produces extra pace — not just a firmer core, though that plays a role too. The trade-off is a smaller, less centred sweet spot, since that mass is no longer evenly distributed.
Because the sweet spot is smaller and positioned higher on the face, a mishit on a diamond racket produces a much less playable result than the same mishit on a round racket.
